In cooperation with the AIRE Centre from London and Judicial Training Centre of Montenegro, CEDEM organized seminar The presumption of innocence under the European Convention on Human Rights on February 23rd in the Hotel Podgorica.
The seminar was organized with support of the German foundation Konrad Adenauer, via the Rule of Law South East Europe Program, OSCE Mission to Montenegro and the British Embassy in Podgorica. Seminar was aimed on fostering constructive debate on effects of the implementation of fair trial standards in Montenegrin practice as well as possible changes regarding harmonizing national legislation with the EU standards. Participants were representatives of courts, prosecutors, lawyers as well as representatives of domestic and international CSOs. Seminar was opened by Mr. Nenad Koprivica, CEDEM's Executive Director, and introductory speeches had Ms. Vesna Medenica, President of Montenegrin Supreme Court; H.E. Ian Whitting, Ambassador of the United Kingdom and North Ireland in Montenegro; H.E. Elisabeth Gudrun Steinacker, Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany and H.E. Janina Hrebičkova, Chief of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro.
