CEDEM's researcher, Emir Kalač, has contributed to the conference "Cooperation between State and Non-state Actors in the Implementation of UN Resolution 1325" organized by the Institute for Public Policy, in cooperation with the Committee for Gender Equality of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, WPON - Women Police Officers Network in South East Europe, with the support of the OSCE Mission and UNDP in Montenegro.
Within the panel "Application of 1325 - national experience," researcher presented the directions of CEDEM's contributions in the field of gender equality in the sector of security. Firstly, "Security Sector Reform in Montenegro 2009-2012", a publication that contains a special chapter devoted to gender equality in the security sector, was presented to participants. Another direction of CEDEM's's contribution to the overall SSR is organizing the first School of Gender and Security Sector Reform in Montenegro, which primary objective is to contribute to inform and improve the knowledge of young people about the status and participation of women in the security sector. As for the advocacy, the third direction of civil society organizations' contribution, the researcher reiterated CEDEM's commitment to networked approach to the decision makers, with the aim of better implementation of Resolution 1325 of the United Nations Security Council.
The conference was held on 4 June 2013 at hotel Podgorica in Podgorica. Participants were various relevant actors in the field: minister of the interior, minister of human rights, president of the Gender Equality Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro, MPs, representatives of other relevant institutions, international organizations, and representatives of local civil society: academics, NGOs, the media and others.
