Press conference: Presenting project in the area of asylum and migrations

azil pressCentre for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM) and Civic Alliance announced today in Podgorica the start of the implementation of the project Supporting Montenegrin Asylum and Migration System, which is supported by theGerman Embassy in Montenegro, through the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe.

The project has been designed as to support Montenegro to deal with asylum and migration processes, by building the capacity of key actors to develop and implement quality policy and mechanisms in this field as well as by supporting the system of human rights protection of asylum seekers and migrants. In that manner, the project will contribute to better addressing of evolving migrations flaws in the region, including illegal migrations, and assist the country to tackle some of the common challenges on its path towards the EU and NATO membership.

Project activities entail: development of the Policy Report on the compliance of national legislation with international standards and practices in the field of asylum and migrations; National Conference for the presentation of policy report to interested parties; trainings for judiciary, lawyers and non-governmental organizations on the implementation of international standards and the European Court of Human Rights jurisprudence in asylum and migration cases; trainings for government representatives on the implementation of EURODAC and the Dublin Convention; provision of primary legal aid to asylum seekers and migrants as well as public awareness campaign on the importance of good migration management.

Target groups include asylum seekers and migrants, representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare; Refugees Directorate, the Ministry of Interior Affairs; Police Directorate, barristers, media and NGOs. Special attention within the project will be dedicated to minors, representatives of socially marginalized groups and victims of trafficking.
