CEDEM presented today the study Anti-corruption Mechanisms and Accountability of Police Officers in Montenegro, which is a product of the homonymous research project, supported by the Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Montenegro.
This project was aimed at collecting and analyzing information regarding the key achievements and challenges in the implementation of anti-corruption and control mechanisms, as well as the improvement of relations between the Ministry of Interior, Police Directorate and civil society organizations.
The research focuses on corruption as one of the greatest challenges in the democratization of Montenegro and its path towards achieving the key foreign-policy priorities - joining the European Union and NATO. Responsibility of different links in the chain of institutions responsible for the fight against corruption, especially the police, is considered to be one of the key issues in terms of fulfilling obligations in the field of negotiating chapters 23 and 24.
In addition to the assesments of the range of anti-corruption mechanisms, the study contains a concise recommendations addressed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other relevant institutions of the Government of Montenegro, the Assembly, independent institutions and civil society organizations.
