CEDEM, in partnership with the Pedagogical Centre of Montenegro and NGO ”Enfants” from Rozaje, has started to realize the project ”Building social inclusion through education” which will last for 18 months. The project is implemented within the program CBC Montenegro - Kosovo* 2011-2013, with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the Government of Montenegro, and it is funded by the European Commission with the support of the EU Delegation in Montenegro.
Project partners are the Kosovo Education Centre (KEC) and the NGO "Bethany Christian Services" from Kosovo. The project aims to improve the social inclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians in the field of education through the improvement of institutional responsibilities and providing of better educational services.
The project will contribute to strengthening of the capacity of civil society organizations dealing with RAE population in order to include them in a dialogue with educational institutions, as well as to develop peer-to-peer learning, knowledge sharing and partnership between experienced and grassroots civil society organizations in the border regions.
The project envisages the establishing an non-formal network of stakeholders working in the field of inclusive education of Roma and Egyptian community in Montenegro, whose role will be consultative in terms of meeting the needs of all users of the project, particularly students, teachers and school administration covered by the project. Members of this non-formal network, together with the project team will participate in a study visit to the cross-border region of Montenegro (Berane, Rozaje and Bijelo Polje) and Kosovo (Peć, Istok and Djakovica) and get opportunity to visit schools attended by Roma and Egyptian children.
The results of the research planned by the project, which focuses on the analysis of the needs of Roma and Egyptian population in the area of education, will serve as a basis for the development of a set of trainings that will be conducted for representatives of NGOs, teachers, Roma children and their parents in order to raise their awareness about the value and necessity of education and reducing of the drop-outs. Public campaign including preparing and distribution of brochures and manuals on education of RAE population will be organized in order to foster greater cohesion between the RE minority and the entire population in the border region.
